A very successful design from 1940 meant that the aircraft was constantly produced until 1986. During 46 years, approximately 16,000 Mustangs were produced. Today, many of these machines are in private collections, just like in the movie Top Gun Maverick. Mustangs are also still used in airshows and sport competitions.
